Then and Now:

It’s been 17 years since the last federal government shutdown from November/December 1995 to January 1996. The players have changed but the issues are similar — education, the environment and public health. 

The government shutdown during the Clinton administration lasted 28 days. This is day three of the current shutdown that has furloughed nearly 800,000 federal workers and put key government agencies in limbo.
